    Sluggish response (IE6)

My IE is suddenly sluggish, taking minutes to load a page. It sits there blank, then suddenly everything pops up, if it does. Reset to default settings without effect, cleared the temp folder, too. ANy ideas? Thanks.

Is it just the first site you visit after starting Internet Explorer, or does loading remain slow after that too?

It seems to be the first site, but when I open a link, I don't even get a properly formatted page..lots of x boxes where images should be, text left aligned, very garbled pages. Even from cnn

Have you given any thought to upgrading to IE7?
I'm not saying that IE6 itself is the reason for the slows but going to IE7 might upgrade you and fix the problem at the same time.
You can always go back to IE6 if you want, by removing IE7 via AddRemove programs and it will revert to IE6.

Good idea, but I'm inside a corporate network and they haven't given that permission. We use the browser interface to Oracle, which is part of the reason. I dimly remember some function called "Fix IE" that was once available. Don't know what it did. Would that be around anywhere? It came with Windows, I think. Thanks.

Do you mean IEFix Utility, perhaps? (It's a free third-party utility, not part of Windows)

If your IT people are that tight about upgrades, then they probably won't like you trying things like FIX IE or IE FIX.

Can you hand it off to them?
