Unnecessary warning from Vista Security Center (Home Premium SP1)

After 6 months of happy coexistence between Vista and McAfee Security Centers I have had the following unnecessary warning from Vista Security Center pop up in the Notification Area every time I log on for the past two weeks:
Check your antispyware software security status. Windows Defender is turned off
    1. Vista is fully updated with patches
    2. McAfee Security center is fully updated and a scan by McAfee Virtual Technician found no problems
    3. I have used all available settings of Vista Security Center to allay its fears but to no avail
    4. The pop up automatically fades out when I use any application

I have raised the matter with McAfee Technical Support by email. Their first countermeasure was "uninstall Windows Defender". After I politely reminded them that this is impossible they came up with a double-barrelled countermeasure: (a) Deselect Windows Defender on the Startup Menu and reboot, and ( Change the Startup Type of Windows Defender in Services to Disabled and
reboot. I have reported to McAfee that these have made no difference, the message still pops up after log on. As yet McAfee has not replied.

I am using McAfee Security Center because it was preinstalled on my new Dell laptop with a bundled 15-month subscription.

A web search shows that I am not alone with this issue. Does anyone have any ideas?

The latest countermeasure from McAfee, reinstallation of McAfee SecurityCenter, has solved the problem. A download of McAfee SecurityCenter was used so it will be the latest version. While the problem was evident Vista Security Center advised that it could not detect an antivirus program even though the McAfee AV program was running.
I conclude that somewhere among the patches and updates Vista Security Center lost touch with the McAfee programs.

    Or that McAfee updates and/or patches lost touch with the Windows requirements. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15> <img src=/S/evilgrin.gif border=0 alt=evilgrin width=15 height=15>

It is NOT always Microsoft's fault that things go wrong.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Or maybe both McAfee and Microsoft are at fault. Anyway I am unhappy at having had the inconvenience of a reinstallation.
