    MIME & attachments (Outlook 2000)

Many I send word perfect and jpg's attachments to cannot open them. I was told to disable MIME which I did. Now my attachments open properly, but what have I lost in the bargain if anything.

probably not much lost - but it's rare that mime causes problems.

what were the problems, what OS, mail program and ISP are they using?

Re: MIME & attachments (Outlook 2000)

I use a Sprint wireless DSL, Earthlink, Win98SE, Outlook 2000 without the SR1 attachment patch. When I would send a jpg, it would be converted to a temporary internet file, not just .jpg and no one could open them except with the default Quickviewer and Mac users not at all. I couldn't even left click open up my own attachments when I test sent them to myself. I tried to have the file extension type default to Photoshop, but couldn't figure it out. I could right click/Open/Open With/MSPaint and get it opened. but forcing anyone you send a jpg to into this scenario is sub-optimal. After disabling MIME, I sent one to myself and it opened with the standard left click procedure, disabling MIME was the only proactive thing I did. Then after decoding the MIME acronym, I wasn't sure if I had solved one problem by creating another? Hmm? Mary J, thanks for your help.
