Outlook - Number of attachments that can be added (2)

What is the maximum number of attachments that can be added to an email message? These attachments are very small, 1Kb to 8Kb in size so that the combined size is small. I have been able to add up to 20 attachments at one time, but have added more on subsequent attempts. I have found no references to the number of attachments that can be added, either in aggregate size or quantity. Our firm is in the process of switching to Outlook and as a helpdesk staffmember, I'm seeking the minute details.

If you are using Exchange server the Exchange admin can set a maximum message size. In addition, your ISP can (and most likely has) also set a maximum message size.

Thanks, Joe. I understand there is a maximu8m aggregate size. I also want to know what limitations to the quantity of attachments provided the aggregate size is less than the maximum aggregate size. At present the aggregate size going out is larger than 30Mb, so 20 10-Kb files is considerably less than 1 Mb.

I don't think there's a limit to the number of attachments per se. As a test, I added 67 small(ish) attachments to a single message without problems.

I would NOT like to be on the recieving end a such a email.
You need to think about the people that you are sending to more than how much can I send.
If I was to start getting emails like this I would more than likely "Block" that email address.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Were you able to add them all at once?

I would agree with you, but I still need to find out how many can be added if a customer so desires.

I didn't try adding them all at once, but I did add 39 of them in one go by dragging them from a folder (in Windows Explorer) into an e-mail message.

Fortunately, Outlook has a File>Save Attachments command that allows the recipient to save all the attachments to a folder at once. For image, in particular, this is way more convenient than previewing each one in a viewer, closing the viewer, returning to the message, and doing it again. But -- a ZIP file might make more sense.

See Maximum attachment per message submission has been changed for the Exchange server defaults. Remember that Outlook & Exchange performance can be greatly affected by the size & number of attachments.
