WINDOWS XP USER ACCOUNTS (WINDOWS XP)

In Windows XP when I follow this path: start, control panel, user accounts, user accounts. I come to the area where I can change how users log on or off. I select that option, change how users log on or off. When I select use welcome screen to log on and use fast user switching then the apply options button the changes do not take effect. I have tried it several times and even restarting but always get the same result. Can I fix this? If so, how?

    Charlie,
I'm not sure this is it but have you tried to switch the Start Menu types to "classic" start menu?

I have mine set to "Start Menu" ( not classic ) since I only have my user account and it logs me on automatically with of course, no fast user switching.

Long ago, there was a time when men cursed and beat on the ground with sticks. It was called witchcraft.
    Today it is called golf!

    Welcome to the Lounge!

To solve your problem, open the Registry Editor, navigate to

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentV ersionpolicies

create a new DWORD value named
    AllowMultipleTSSessions
    and set it to 1.

Be very careful when modifying the registry!
    Good luck!

Re: WINDOWS XP USER ACCOUNTS (WINDOWS XP)

Thank you for the helpful information but the process did not solve the issue. I did find a resolution in the same string except one level lower. Below policies there is a "sytem" folder. There is a DWORD titled log in type. It was set to 0. I changed that to 1, which solved my issue.
Well almost. Eveything works fine until I restart my computer, then everything goes back to the way it was. Any thoughts on how to fix this one?

Do a search in the lounge for your problem but from memory I think its this:

Click Start, Run, and enter control userpasswords2
    .
Clear the check box captioned Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer.

    Click OK.

Im sure someone else will confirm or alter this if you can wait a while
