    Laptop question

I have a Compaq 2170 laptop running XP home SP-3.
I added a HP 19" wide screen monitor.
I can switch between the laptop screen or the 19" monitor or both.
When both monitors are selected, both monitors are showing the same things.
I was told I could setup the monitors to display different programs.
Example" maybe Firefox on the laptop monitor and a photo program on the 19" monitor.
Is this possible and if so, how do it?

    Thanks,

    John So.

Open the Display Properties control panel.
    Activate the Settings tab.
Is there a Display dropdown in which you can select multiple monitor options?

You should be able to select an option for dual monitors there; once you have done so you can specify which monitor will act as the primary one.

    Re: Laptop question

Before you can change these settings on the display options you must set your display so that only the laptop screen is enabled. You can't change directly from having the external monitor as a copy of your laptop screen to having it as an extension.
