Help About suggests that Office uses the American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language from Houghton Mifflin.

    hello Hans

where did you find that information?

What is your default language, dictionary English (US)?

Our language is set to English (Australian). Would that make a difference to the dictionary used?

I use the Dutch language version of Word 2002, with support for spell checking in Dutch, English (all variants) and French. Help | About Microsoft Word shows copyrights for spell checking in these three languages.
