    Vlookup Problem (excel 2000)

    hi,
i have some doubt when using vlookup function.
    eg. I need tier = tier, A=Good, B=Bad, C=Stable
i manage to use =VLOOKUP(A1,table,2) formula to apply this where table is name as reference to the code, tier, A or B or C. However, i dunno why the data tier words will have wrong result which become
TIER = STABLE, which it should give me TIER

I have an attachement of my sample. thanks alots.

    DATA:
    tier
    A
    B
    C

You should use the fourth argument of the VLOOKUP function and set it to false:
    =VLOOKUP(A1,Table,2,FALSE)
If this argument is left out, it defaults to true and XL assumes your list is sorted in ascending order.
