Runtime error (ab prgm term) (WORD 2002 SP3)

When I try to Close or Save a Word 2002 file. It seems to happen more often when I try to close a file without saving it.
Sometimes the following error message appears – but not always.

Title bar says “Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library”
    Next line says “Runtime Error!:”
    Then “Program : C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice 10Winword.exe”
And at the bottom: “abnormal program termination”

The whole Word 2002 program goes down.
When I restart Word 2002, I have to jump through a series of questions about saving changes to various templates and I end up dealing with the Document Recovery jazz.
I have not had this problem with either Excel 2002 or PowerPoint 2002.
Why has this started happening in the last few weeks?

Do you have any templates or add-ins that intercept the save and close commands? One example would be a document management system. There could be a problem with its integration code.
