Desktop Icon Shadows and Balloons (Win XP Pro/SP3)

Geez, after reviewing some of the posted problems, mine seems incredibly trivial.
However, they continue to bother me.

How can I get rid of the icon shadows and balloons that appear on my desktop?

Good luck to everyone listed...and thanks.

    Welcome to the Lounge!

    - Press Windows and Pause/Break keys on your keyboard simultaneously (or open System form Control Panel). System Properties window will appear.
    - Click Advanced tab, then Settings button under Performance. Performance Options window will open.
    - Deselect or select any options you want, then click Apply, OK, OK.

I haven't modified anything there for a while and had forgotten that if you have your Desktop Properties > Theme set to 'Windows Classic', it appears to be automatically converted to a 'Modified XP' theme when you make any changes.
