This question is probably listed under search a gazillion times (tho I didn't check). With Word closed, find and rename your normal.dot file to abnormal.dot

Hi,

See My Menus or Toolbars are Missing and Won't Come Back. Different things can cause this and there are various cures described depending on the exact configuration / symptoms.

Hope this helps,

Thanks very much for your suggestion about normal.dot but it did not work. It does work with the /a switch but any settings you create like labels or envelope sizes just revert to default unless you rename them. What I would like to do is a Clean Install, but it dont work , but thanks anyway

At the risk of asking the obvious: Did you try going to Tools, Customize, click on Toolbars, and click on Menu Bar? I know in Word 2000, the Menu Bar can be hidden, as the Toolbars can.

Re: Word Menu Bar (Office 97 SR2)

This was written for Office 2000, but see if it will run:

Sub cBarLoc()
Dim cbar As CommandBar
For Each cbar In CommandBars
If cbar.Visible Then
Debug.Print cbar.Name, cbar.Position, cbar.Left, cbar.RowIndex
End If
Next
End Sub

It should give you something like this in the immediate window in the VB editor:

Standard 1 0 2
Formatting 1 0 4
Menu Bar 1 0 1

Except that presumably the menu bar settings will be wacky. What do you get?

There's more on positioning CommandBars in this thread.
