    System Restore

Today I opened Restore my computer to a previous date, and all dates prior to October 1st are gone. What could have happened to them I don't need to restore but I think something is wrong. I make a restore point each and every day and their should be lots of dates that I could restore to.

Does anyone know why this happened or is this normal?

If you change the maximum size allowed for System Restore XP will automatically delete restore points in excess of the new size. If you turn System Restore off and then back on all restore points will be deleted. If you install a Windows service pack all restore points prior to the service pack will be deleted.

    Re: System Restore

I've done none of those things. System Restore is set as Disk space to use: Max 12% (9378 MB). It's been set like that from the first day I started using it.

Are you saying that my restore points exceeded the Max allowance, therefore it has been reset to start with October 1st?

    Re: System Restore

As new restore points are created, Windows deletes the oldest ones to make room for the new ones. With 9 GB available for restore points, there should be enough space for at least 50 (probably more) restore points. If you click the left arrow button to the left of "October 2008" in the "Select a restore point" dialog to show the calendar for September 2008, are you sure that there are no bold dates in the calendar?

Yep! The first bold number is October 1st.

Seems like I remember that this ain't the first time you've had this problem! Should we all go looking for previous posts or do you remember anything about the last time and what it took to resolve it?

Oops !! Gee Hans, I did it again. Yelled wolf and there was no wolf. I decided to go back and look again after I received your post and guess what I found? Yes, you guessed it..
I clicked back to September and all restore points are listed.

I was looking at October where Sept's dates (28 - 30) are grayed out and panicked, which is par for course for me, it seems. I just punished myself by rapping my knuckles with a ruler, I apologize for starting a topic under false pretenses, please forgive me. <img src=/S/bash.gif border=0 alt=bash width=35 height=39>

Oh Doc, don't be upset with me. Because I'm way past the age of consent, I don't remember the last time but I'm certain that there was this problem before. If I keep this up you and others will stop trying to help me and that would be a disaster.

I'll try harder to look before I leap. Am I forgiven? Can we start over and forget my past mistakes?
