    Address Bar on Toolbar

Two of my computers show the Internet Explorer address bar on toolbars on the desktop. (One is on the bottom of the screen with the taskbar, the other is at the top of the screen with a specially created toolbar.)

Another computer does NOT show it, and I can't figure out how to put it there. I can create a new toolbar, but I never get the option to put the address bar on it.

    Help!

    Re: Address Bar on Toolbar

Is the OS Windows XP? If so, do you have Service Pack 3 (SP3) on the PC?

I don't know if we are talking about the same thing, but prior to SP3 there is an option in the right-click menu for the Task Bar, among Toolbars: "Address". This Address "bar" can also be moved off the Task Bar, as in one of your other PCs.

This "Address" option in Toolbars has been removed in SP3. Probably something to do with IE integration in the OS or similar. So, it is possible you have SP3 on one PC and SP2 on the two other.

    Re: Address Bar on Toolbar

Looking at two of the computers (#3 is down right now), both run Windows XP Professional SP3. Neither offer the Address Bar option when right clicking the Taskbar.

But one of them has the address bar in an additional toolbar at the top of the screen. I don't remember where this toolbar came from, but it offers Address as an option when right clicking it. It has been around since before SP3 was available. Another additional toolbar at the top of the screen does NOT offer the address option.

I would be pleased to have an address bar on any sort of toolbar on my desktop.

    Re: Address Bar on Toolbar

A couple of threads at Microsoft Technet which may explain/resolve the problem:
Taskbar Address Toolbar Option Missing in XP SP3
    Lost Address Bar

    Re: Address Bar on Toolbar

Microsoft suggests to use Windows Desktop Search instead (see KB951448 for deails).

There are also third-party replacements available - see Restore the Address Toolbar (Deskband) after installing Windows XP SP3
