    Useful Excel Spreadsheets (97)

    Greetings!

Does anyone have any good resources for useful Excel Spreadsheets? Preferrably pre-created spreadsheets that I wouldn't have to modify too much? I'm putting together a class, and would like to demonstrate first hand the types of things you can do with excel,

I'm looking for some budgeting spreadsheets, perhaps a grocery list, or mileage spreadsheet.. There has to be a site out there that has these en-masse, but I can't seem to find it, any ideas?

    Thanks!

    Drk,

You might try the U. S. CENSUS. There is some data here on population growth that is recent but you would have to build up your own VLOOKUP, etc. functions.

    Hope this helps.

Do you have an old copy of the "underground guide to Excel"? No precreated spreadsheets - but a lot of excellent examples of what a spreadsheet could be used for. Um, maybe it is the same in Excel Annoyances <img src=/S/blush.gif border=0 alt=blush width=15 height=15> but I never got around to picking up a copy....

    Don't have that.. <img src=/S/bummer.gif border=0 alt=bummer width=15 height=15>

Ideally, I'd find a site much like a shareware site, or otherwise, that lists excel spreadsheets in the same manner...

I've used Excel for many things, but just about found myself clueless when a user asked, "Just what in the world would I use Excel for?" <img src=/S/laugh.gif border=0 alt=laugh width=15 height=15>

    Thanks!

Why didn't you give your use of Excel as examples? What about invoicing, financial modeling, forecasting, time sheets, etc., etc.???

    How about tax forms (e.g.,<A target="_blank" HREF=http://tax.state.nv.us/>http://tax.state.nv.us/</A>)
    American Institute of Architects documents (e.g., <A target="_blank" HREF=http://depts.washington.edu/cmweb/cero/>http://depts.washington.edu/cmweb/cero/</A> -- document G702 is interesting)
    Forecasting (e.g.,<A target="_blank" HREF=http://lacher.com/examples/lacher44.htm>http://lacher.com/examples/lacher44.htm</A>)
    Aaron's Mindsweeper or Room Design programs? (e.g., <A target="_blank" HREF=http://geocities.com/aaronblood/pages/games.html>http://geocities.com/aaronblood/pages/games.html</A>)

and on and on and on...

    Re: Useful Excel Spreadsheets (97)

    Hi:

Unfortunately, I don't have any spreadsheets I can send you - bcs the info is either work proprietary, personal, or not mine. But the kind of things I use Excel for are:
    - analyze business cases for new products/services (clearly work). These usually involve 20-30 sheets but could, for a simple quick analysis, be 5 sheets.
    - tax returns, with one sheet per schedule/form (US and state) - too cheap to buy the tax program every year, especially since it doesn't change a lot
    - teachers use for grade tracking (I had a post in early-mid Aug on charting for showing grades)
    - analysis of potential divorce settlements (yuk)
    - my daughter was using excel for tracking experimental observations
    - a friend tracks software problems and resolutions

Thank you all for the responses!

Thankfully, I was able to locate some very good resources, I thought it would be nice of me to share them with you all.. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

    Re: Useful Excel Spreadsheets (97)

I had to design & implement a basic excel training course a few years ago. I'm in the reinsurance industry, so it's a bit tailored for that, but it's all quite basic. Unfortunately i couldn't find the Word document that lists what to do in what order.

I've attached a ZIp file - hope this helps

    PS

All figures are fictitious etc etc.

I've been teaching Excel recently and have quite a 'fun' idea. What about recording spot heights (contour heights) over and area then using the surface map to create a 3D relief map of your local area?

A bit different to the norm I think?
