    OpenOffice v. 3.0 Final released

OpenOffice v. 3.0 is due to be officially released on Monday on the OpenOffice website. However, there are 3 locations where you can download it now:

    Majorgeeks.com
    http://majorgeeks.com/OpenOffice.org...ows_d3461.html

    FileForum.com
    http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/OpenO...ws/1009574294/1

    Filehippo.com
    http://filehippo.com/download_openoffice/

Want more information about OpenOffice than what the descriptions offer on the above sites? Then click here: OpenOffice Home.

FYI: When installing OpenOffice there is the option to do a "Custom" install where you can pick & choose which programs in the suite you want. You do not have to install the entire suite of programs. <img src=/S/wink.gif border=0 alt=wink width=15 height=15>

Re: OpenOffice v. 3.0 Final released

    Thanks for the update, Jeff!

I forgot to make this post yesterday. I have been running the RC1 of Version 3, so I was quick to download the final and replace the RC1. I haven't had too much time to tinker with the final yet, but one thing I was hoping they did was enable Open Office to at least view an MDB file. No such luck yet. If you try, it opens the Writer application which is useless for viewing a database table.

I don't do any database work, but there are occasions when I'd like to be able to see what's in an MDB file, so I use MDB Viewer Plus free application for that purpose. On some occasions, I've even used this app to export a database table to a CSV file so I can tinker with it in a spreadsheet mode.

    Do these instructions work? http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/C...icrosoft_Access (site is a little slow today for some reason <img src=/S/wink.gif border=0 alt=wink width=15 height=15> )

Not for me they don't but then again, I just don't know what the <img src=/w3timages/censored.gif alt=censored border=0> I'm doing with all of this database stuff. I always end up with Open Office Writer and an unintelligible screen of one line of junk. I could use some help from a Lounger who IS experienced at both Access and Open Office to tell me how to bridge the gap.

I had tried these instructions some time ago and could not get it to work.

You can get some access to the tables and their structure, but not to forms or reports or anything that used sql.

That makes sense: most external means of using MDBs are limited to tables and queries (as "stored procedures").

There's also MS Access database viewer (477KB) you might find useful.

Thanks Alan, got it. On the surface, it doesn't look too different than the MDB one I've got, but it's nice to have.
