    Noisy Laser Printer - Maintenance

I have a Dell 1700 laser printer and it is making a terrible grinding noise when it powers on and when printing. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this noise?
Also, can anyone give me some tips on maintenance for this type of printer, how to clean it, etc?
    Thanks!

I can't suggest anything positive for you but I DID notice that someone was having the same problem with a Dell 1700 at FIX IT SITE. This is still an unresolved post.

( unless that was also your post? )

If not you could add your post there, in hopes of getting a better answer?

My GUESS is that when noise and grinding noise is heard from most any printer, I would suspect worn or loose plastic gearing inside the units drive mechanism. Not a good sound to hear.

How old is this printer and how much use does it get?

Long ago, there was a time when men cursed and beat on the ground with sticks. It was called witchcraft.
    Today it is called golf!

Thanks for your post. This printer is about three years old and just gets occasional light use.
