    select all text with similar formatting (Word 2003)

    Why is that sometimes this is enabled and sometimes not? 'select all text with similar formatting' or it says 'Select all: currently not used'. I need to reset the left indent of all Heading 1, Heading 2 and Heading 3 styles in my document. I thought I would select all paragraphs with same style and reset them but it doesn't seem allow it. The best way would be using a macro. But the macro is so sloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow. This is my macro:

    Sub ResetHeadingStyles(doc As Document)
    Dim par As Paragraph
    Dim J As Long

    For J = 4 To (doc.Sections.Count - 1)
    For Each par In doc.Sections(J).Range.Paragraphs
    If par.Style = H1STYLE Or _
    par.Style = H2STYLE Or _
    par.Style = H3STYLE Then
    par.LeftIndent = doc.Styles(H1STYLE).ParagraphFormat.LeftIndent
    par.FirstLineIndent = doc.Styles(H1STYLE).ParagraphFormat.FirstLineInden t
    End If
    Next par
    Next J
    End Sub

    Select Tools | Options...
    Activate the Edit tab.
    The check box "Keep track of formatting" controls whether "Select all text with similar formatting" is enabled.

    A non-code way to reset the paragraph and character settings of just the headings is to go to Outline view and restrict your view to the 'headings' (actually the outline levels) and then select all and press Ctrl-Space and/or Ctrl-Q.

    I sometimes use this basic method on headings when the document has all the headings typed in uppercase and I need to run a change case on just the headings.
