Multiple e-mail addresses in Contacts (OL2000)

With OL97/98 it was possible, where a contact had alternate e-mail addresses, to see all of them when using the contacts list to address an e-mail.
In OL2000 it seems that only the selected "default email" address appears in the list. Is there a way to turn this "feature" off so that I can easily select which e-mail address I want to use for these "multi-connected" contacts?

    Replying to my own post!

Another barely documented Microsoft "Feature" comes to light. See Microsoft knowledge base article Q196982.

If a contact has multiple e-mail addresses e.g. jim@work, jim@home, jim@hotmail.com, only one is recognized by OL 2000 as the "default e-mail address", and this is what shows when you search for the name after clicking the "To:" box when addressing an e-mail.

Do not despair! Add the default address to the e-mail, then right click on the address and the alternate addresses appear in a pull down list. Select which one you want.

So - to sum up - what was one mouse click is now 3!

That's weird. When Outlook is installed in corporate or Workgroup mode, it puts all the email addresses in the 'To:' field and opens a dialog box telling you delete the ones you don't want it sent to. I think I prefer that, since you have to actively select the address you want to use.

<img src=/S/scratch.gif border=0 alt=scratch width=25 height=29> That's interesting, because I am required to choose which one of the two (or more) email address I want to use. I'm running in C/W mode, too. Could you find out if there is a setting we need to change on my setup (or on the server), that would pull both addresses into the To: field?

    Thanks,

No settings that I know of. I'm using a personal address book. Are you using a shared address book? That could be the difference.

That must be it. I'm using a global address list, but it works the same way in Contacts.

Really? I use a PAB in CW mode and (1) each PAB record only has one address, so adding a person using the pop-up window only inserts one address, and (2) if I type an ambiguous name, instead of getting all of the names (e.g., everyone named Bob) I get a wavy red underline inviting me to right-click.

Any chance you have a really spiffy macro that's doing this magic?

You're not talking about the same scenario. If you just click on the 'New' button to send an email to Bob, it will behave the way you describe. But if you go to the Contacts folder, right-click on Bob's record and select 'New message to Contact', in my installation it will behave the way I described.

Re the way you described, I have a different problem. When I right-click on 'Bob' when it has a wavy red underline, Outlook stops in the first folder in which it finds a match, offering all the matches in that folder only. If I have Bob in other folders, I'm SOL.

And, no, I don't have any macros in Outlook.
