    Weird Printer Properties

Following a fairly major repair to XP Pro, I find that my printer communication is loused up. It used to work via LPT3 (a separate hardware card). This port appears to be working OK, according to Device Manager, but the printer (which appears as a hidden device) properties show up an LPT3.4 ??? Where on Earth is LPT3.4? ... yeah I know, in between 3 & 4.

Anyway, any suggestions on how to get my beloved ol' printer back?

    Alan,
If you go to Control Panel>(right click)Printers>Properties>Ports, can you select the proper LPT port number there?
Either that or uninstall the printer and card and try for a reinstall?

Thanks Bob, but it now appears to be an actual fault with the printer. It seems to have (conveniently) developed at the same time as my OS screw-up. I may have to have a tech take a look at it. The diagnostics say it's telling me there's no cartridge installed, but nothing's changed and there's still plenty of ink in the tanks.

I don't know about your part of the world but in the USA unless you can get it looked at for free most home printers are not worth the cost of evaluation and repair. The replacement price is so cheap for an equivalent printer now it just is doesn't make sense to spend the time, aggravation, & money on an older printer.
