Searching the Lounge Mk II

Further to the recent thread starting at <post:=737,408>post 737,408</post:>,

Is it possible, in any way, to save a search?

I often enough say to self "I know I responded to something about that recently", and enter search parameters as shown in the screen snapshot.
I don't see the equivalent of the search url as I do with, say, a Google search.
It's not a big deal.

Re: Searching the Lounge Mk II

The Lounge itself doesn't have an option to save searches, but you can create and save your own search URLs, e.g. to search for the words lounge search with the AND option in the Lounge matters forum, within the last week, display the first 5 items:

http://www.wopr.com/cgi-bin/w3t/dosearch.p...5&Old=1week

Arguments start after http://www.wopr.com/cgi-bin/w3t/dosearch.pl? and must be separated by &.
Forum names are abbreviated; you can see the abbreviations in Main Index by hovering the mouse pointer over a forum name and looking at the Status Bar.
Spaces in the search terms are specified as %20.
Searchpage starts counting at 0.

Thanks Hans. I'm sorry for the delay in responding with thanks. Three of my fiscal year-ends sprang on me yesterday. Thankfully I am now up to date for 2006, 2007 and 2008 and get back to the Real World.

I essayed with some URLs, the results of which I lodge here for future reference.
The lines tagged with "won't work" are an Exercise For The Reader.
I still need help with the forums criteria.
The last block, of five lines, shows my efforts at snagging "All Forums", with no success.
The main index does not, of course, have a forum called "All Forums".
I tried an empty parameter, omitting the parameter, to no avail.

The All Forums search for your username is already built. Go to the Main Index and mouse over your underlined username link on the right.

I needed that.
Thanks Jefferson.

There's a sort of balance here; it's always the people at the bright end of the spectrum who make me feel as if I've been shunted further towards the dimmer end.
If possible.

How did you learn that/work it out?
At least I can open cans.

chrisgreaves,
"How did you learn that/work it out?"

Be curious and click on everything, especially if it got your name on it.

Searching for ones username is futile in this case ("I know I responded to something about that"), since it will only get posts where someone replies using the username, as in this post.

Au contraire.
(Unless I have dropped right off the dumb end)
It gets me exactly what I want. I think its "brill":

Re: Searching the Lounge Mk II

Correct.
Mea Culpa; since you didn't have a nice <!post=blue line around "Search options",738530>blue line around "Search options"<!/post> I (too) quickly interpreted it as unchanged, thus using standard option "And", which would produce the result I mentioned. Mea Culpa.

But clicking on everything with ones name on, is still good (in most cases ).

Re: Searching the Lounge Mk II

If possible, would you please construct a url which will search in the VB / VBA forum for all posts by HansV containing the words early and binding? As an example.

Alternatively, I have a vague recollection of being able to sort the search results by author. Can you advise how to achieve this if possible.

Not only is my forgetter working well these days, but I'm concerned that my memory is becoming inventive in an attempt to compensate.

Re: Searching the Lounge Mk II

Unfortunately the lounge search capability is not this sophisticated. You can search by Username, or by content in the post, but not both at the same time.
The best way to sort the results would probably be to cut and paste them to Excel!

Hello Hans

http://www.wopr.com/cgi-bin/w3t/dosearch.p...ge&Words=lounge search&Match=And&Searchpage=0&Limit=5&Old=1week

I have been trying (unsuccessfully), to develop an equivalent statement which will open a specific post using the Post #.

Can you help?

Many thanks in advance.

Don

Does <!t>[Post: 747,595] - giving <post:=747,595>post 747,595</post:> - do what you want? (Copy and paste the post number directly from the post itself.)

Or, from Threaded Mode, copy the URL from your address bar:
http://www.wopr.com/cgi-bin/w3t/showthread...vc=1#Post747595
and if you like, chop off the extraneous bit after the first reference to the post number:
http://www.wopr.com/cgi-bin/w3t/showthread...e&Number=747595
