Disable the ability to select auto update date (2000/2003)

    Hi,

Now Hans has helped me remove the automatic updating from within word documents. I am wondering if there is a way to remove the ability to select the automatic update date tick box from the insert date menu.

I was thinking I could use a macro to remove the particular menu item but this would mean remove then insert date completly is there another way so the user can still insert a date but not the automatic update.

    Thanks
    Regards

That would be difficult - the user can also use Insert | Field... and select the Date field.
Or the user could press Ctrl+F9 to insert field braces { }, type Date and press F9 to hide the field codes.
It's virtually impossible to disable all these options.
You'd be better off educating your users - explain why you don't want them to insert a date field.

    Hans,

Thanks for your reply, would I be right in saying that if the tick box is set to off (not ticked) and then I used the code below, they would not be able to get to the tick box to turn it on. I am fine with the using ctrl + f9 to insert the date as long as this does not turn the autoupdate back on.

    Sub DisableAutoDate()
    With Application.CommandBars("Menu Bar")
    With .Controls("&Insert")
    .Controls("Date And &Time...").Enabled = False
    End With
    End With
    End Sub

    Thanks
    Regards

Your code disables the entire Insert | Date and Time menu item. So the user won't be able to insert a fixed date or time that way either.
The code does *not* the ability to insert an automatically updating date field by selecting Insert | Field... or by pressing Alt+Shift+P or pressing Ctrl+F9 then typing Date.

That would take away the user's ability to create fields with custom switches. I wouldn't go that way - I would be very annoyed if that happened to me.
