    Discussion Threads Software

We are looking at providing a closed threaded discussion board for a client of ours, and are seriously looking at the wwwthreads software used in the lounge. However we are not thrilled with using mySQL as the DB engine as we already run SQL Server 7/2000 in their shop. Is it possible to run wwwthreads with SQL Server as the backend? Potential users (20,000) are already captured in the SQL Server DB and we would like to use it for authentication. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

For more information go to <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.wwwthreads.org/>http://www.wwwthreads.org/</A>. This is Scream's site, he is the author of the software WWWThreads. You will find out all you need. Just follow the different links.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

    Re: Discussion Threads Software

WWWThreads *will* run on on SQL Server and *can* use existing User data.
BUT neither of the two out-of-the-box. They both require an amount of hacking...

That said, W3T is VERY hackable and the people on Scream's board are very skilled, very helplful and very friendly.

Thanks very much - we did a quick scan of their site and didn't get much encouragement - we do have development staff that should be able to do the hacking. I presume you are using the PERL version - what is your view of the PHP version?

(Apologies for posting my question in the wrong subject area - I debated between the two and guessed wrong.)

    Re: Discussion Threads Software

I don't know PHP so I stick with the Perl which is heavily commented and a hacker's dream. Those who use the PHP version love it and apparently it's very fast.
