    Program SpeedUpMyPC (Office XP SP3)

    I am having problems with my computer's upload speed.
    I tried to download a program 'SpeedUpMyPC' to see what can be done on my computer. The program needs .Net Framework 3.5. I tried downloading and installing that but it repeatedly refused to install. There seems to be an abundance of folk on the net with the same problem, but I can't see a solution to allow me to download it. Does anyone have any hints?
    Regards,
    Peter

    I posted some information in your IMAP thread at <post:=739,070>post 739,070</post:> before I saw this.

    Re: Program SpeedUpMyPC (Office XP SP3)

    Managed to get .Net Framework 3.5 SP1 installed. I first had to remove .Net 3.0, 3.5 then installed.
    Question, I think I can remember that new versions of .Net Framework do not replace older versions. IE all versions of .Net F are required. Is that correct? Or can I remove older versions?
    Regards,
    Peter

    .Net 3.5 is a superset of .NET 2.0 & .NET 3.0. It requires SP-1 for both versions. So, I'd just leave .NET alone.

    Unfortunately, SpeedUpMyPC wouldn't help you to boost your network connection speed.

    You did not mention, what kind of network equipment do you use.
    Presuming, you are using NIC (Network Interface Card) to connect to the router, cable modem or another computer, make sure that your NIC is set to Auto (Full Auto Negotiation).

    To do so in Windows XP:
    - Click Start > (Settings - in Classic mode only) > Control Panel;
    - Open Network Connections;
    - On the next window right-click your Local Area Connection and select Properties;
    - Click on Configure button next to your NIC (or select it under "Connect using" drop-down list);
    - On the next window click Advanced tab and select "Link Speed and Duplex" from Property list;
    - Change the Value to Auto Detect (Auto Negotiation);
    - Click OK and close the window.

    If your network connection speed is 100 MBPs, do not try to force your NIC to auto negotiate 1000 MBPs (it is separate setting on some NICs).
    If your upload speed does not improve, the problem is outside your computer.

    Good luck!

    Re: Program SpeedUpMyPC (Office XP SP3)

    I wanted .Net 3.5 to run 'SpeedUpMyPC'. I wanted to try SpeedUpMyPC to see if my abominably slow cable upload speed of 124 kb/s could be increased. Have since run that SpeedUpMyPC, but no noticable change in my upload speed.

    Thanks for the advice.
    Unfortunately, that setting was already set.
    It isn't my network speed but my upload speed that I was hoping SpeedUpMyPC would fix. Sadly it didn't, I still have very slow cable upload speed of 124 kb/s when it should be at least 450 kb/s.

    Did you contact your cable company's customer support?

    One of the most common problems with slow network connection is a bad (inappropriate) cable splitter.

    Thanks, but I have already spent a lot of time with them (50 minutes on the phone). They repeatedly tested the line and said it was perfect. So I guess it is either my computer setup or the router.

    Peter
