Need help to activate outdated software?

    Hi there,

I've been trying to find a solution to some trial software but so far have not had any luck.

The program is called The Transcription Assistant and is an integrated program with built in templates and such, to streamline daily tasks of medical transcriptionists.

I type for a small number of doctors and need all the help I can get to keep things organised, but from what I can work out, it seems the software is no longer supported. Downloading the software is not the issue. It's not being able to obtain the activation code to activate the program. The program is available at quite a few download sites via Google search, and each of them advise sending an email to the following address to obtain the activation code:

    FreeTrial@TheTranscriptionAssistant.com

I've tried this more than once but the emails are returned a few hours later, with a message saying they are undeliverable.

Is there any way I can figure out how to get this trial working? Or could there be something suspicious going on (seems strange though as the download is available from many different download sites).

Thanks for your patience, folks. Perhaps someone with programming skills would be willing to take a look and see if there is any solution to this.

Thanks in advance for all and any feedback.

If the vendor is no longer active (which seems likely from your description), there is no legal way to activate the software, I fear.

You might be able to uninstall the program and then reinstall it and get another 45 days, but most shareware leaves something behind when removed to prevent this.

As Hans stated, the company appears to have gone under (and I do not mean "down under").

    Hi Doc,

Thanks also for your help. Unfortunately, I have never been able to try this software as the activation code is needed to use the trial version.

I've trawled the internet looking for an all-in-one program that will take care of the administrative side of running a one-person medical transcription service. The pickings are slim. Apart from this "unusable" program, I've purchased a few from www.mpword.com, and while these are very good and the customer service is excellent, they do not suit my set-up 100%.

BTW, loved the "down under" humour! Nothing like a good double entendre! <img src=/S/aussie.gif border=0 alt=aussie width=21 height=22>

Re: Need help to activate outdated software?

The Internet Archive has a page from TheTranscriptionAssistant.com as of April 2004. The address matches up with the following transcription services/outsourcing company whose current website is mum on any connection: http://www.bettertranscription.com/. It seems they abandoned the software business for whatever reason. It's annoying that shareware/trialware sites don't bother to update their pages.

    Hi Jefferson,

Thank you so much for the information you supplied. I have taken a look at www.bettertranscription.com, and while there is no software available on the site, it does offer some value added services to potential clients, that sound very much like tasks the software was designed to perform. I have sent an email to bettertranscription and hope to hear from them regards the activation process. Will keep you updated on any progress.

BTW, can you tell me a little more about "The Internet Archive" you mentioned in your reply? Is this a particular site?

Thanks again for your help, I really appreciate it.

The Internet Archive is at http://www.archive.org/. Its "Wayback Machine" captures copies of web sites for historical preservation purposes. It's not very complete, but it's way better than nothing.
