    transfer audio cassettes to cd

Hello all. I have a collection of many hundreds of audio cassette tapes (predominantly sermons & lectures) and would like a machine that will copy them to CD, can someone suggest a suitable appliance at reasonable cost and maybe a supplier. Web site or Photo would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You need a cable from the tape deck (line out) to your PC (line in), and sound recording software such as Audacity (free) to transfer the tapes to .wav or .mp3 files on your hard disk. You can then use standard CD burning software such as Roxio, Nero etc. to transfer the tracks form your PC to CD.

See Converting your tapes and records to CDs for an illustrated guide.

I've managed this successfully using the <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15> CDex | Open Source Digital Audio CD Extractor. All I used was a cassette player with Line-out plugged into the Line-in of the soundcard.

Thanks for the advice.... very helpful.....for the benefit of anyone who would like to copy both audio cassettes and old LP's [vynils] to HD then CD's, I was sent an email from a friend showing a M/C that will perform both functions & which has received some good reviews in various mags. For the benefit of readers in the UK where I know Maplin's have many stores, I have attached a photo of the said M/C which is currently available at a reasonably discounted price. Regards

It was discussed a couple of years ago in The Lounge but I see that many of the Ion links don't work any longer. ( <post:=594,088>post 594,088</post:> )

    Anyways, for your reading "pleasure."
