    Runtime Error (IE 7 )

I keep getting this error message:

    Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
    Runtime Error!
    Program: C:Program FilesInternet ExplorerIEXPLORE.EXE
    R6025
    Pure virtual function call

    I have XP 3

I cannot find understandable corrections to prevent it popping up. I can ignore usually by going to the program I am trying to run, but it comes back off and on.

    Any advice or reference?

Do you get this error on a specific website or group of websites?

Does this error occur when you are using Internet Explorer to browse the web, or in some other context? Your post suggests that you are launching programs, so it's not clear to me.

Re: Runtime Error (IE 7 )

Although the error message contains a reference to I Explorer, it usually happens when I am using Outlook Express 6. My browser is IE7. My system is XP Pro SP3. I have 2G of memory on an Intel 915 GAV board with a 3G Intel Pentium 4 processor. I use the full suite of security programs from Earthlink including their Protection Control Center because I use their DSL for Internet access since Earthlink does not provide cable to my location. I have tried all the solutions referenced for this error listed on Google and elsewhere but to no avail. I really appreciate your reply and attention.

A quick search comes up with many suggestions to try. So as not to repeat suggestions and get you more frustrated could you tell us specifically what solutions you've tried? Is this something recent? Have you tried a System Restore?

One of the suggestions I found is:
    - Start Outlook Express.
    - Select Tools | Options...
    - Activate the Security tab.
    - Click "Internet zone (less secure, but more functional)".
    - Click Apply, then OK.
    Have you tried that one?

Re: Runtime Error (IE 7 )

I checked and I have that selected on Xpress already

A constant seems to be the last line in the error message:

    R6025
    pure virtual function call

Reference to that seems to be prevalent. It looks like many others are having the same problem. I have tried that and see many suggestions but none seem to work for me

    Thanks continuing

The error message is a rather technical one; it means that a programmer somewhere made a rather deep mistake. Unfortunately it is not possible for an end user to find out where exactly it occrs and why.

I don't have a solution, but you might try the successor to Outlook Express: Windows Live Mail. Get it from Windows Live Mail.

Re: Runtime Error (IE 7 )

can you refer me to opinion statements re Windows Live -- mail in particular? My research is that Windows Live is a very complicated set of many programs that I fear to use to replace the ordinary suite of MS standard programs I have long used because my experience is that doing so always creates problems and unanticipated spin off consequences that require serious repair work. I have been burnt too many times

I suggest always using the Restricted Zone for reading HTML email. This provides greater safety than using the Internet Zone. You will lose embedded videos and other ActiveX control features, but that is the whole point. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>
