    Java 6, Update 10

I have WinXP, SP2 with the following Java programs installed, using up over 1.4 GB space:
    (1) Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_03
    (2) J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0, Updates 2, 4, 6, 9, 10, 11
    (3) Java SE Runtime Environment 6, Update 1
    (4) Java 6 Updates 2, 3, 5, 7

Can these all be uninstalled and then be replaced with the new download available from Java, which is Java SE 6, Update 10? If so, is it a good idea to do this?

Unless you have software that requires a specific version of the Jave Runtime Environment, you can safely uninstall all older versions. I always uninstall the previous version when a new one is released, and it has never caused a problem for me.

That's what I usually do too.

However, see my <post#=740,472>post 740,472</post#> Java is really giving me a hard time in Vista.
Haven't yet tried to upgrade it on my XP partition yet.

    Re: Java 6, Update 10

I found that my game program 'Pogo Games' wouldn't work after I upgraded to Java 6, Update 10. I tried everything I could think of to fix it. As a last resort, I deleted Java in Add/Remove, did a search and removed everything with the word Java, went into the registry and deleted all Java's I could find, rebooted. It took me 2 days to decide to try that fix.

Then I downloaded the update again and now Pogo's working.

Just a tip, it might prevent future problems. Of course I'm not using Vista but I think it should work for all versions of Windows.
