    Document Summary

I maintain a controlled document folder using several document property fields to identify such things as rev level/rev date, document owner, document level, and company categories (see attachment). Whenever I copy Office documents from the server to my flash drive, all of the custom property fields transfer with the document. The same in not true for other extensions (ie: pdf, zip,... ). Is there a problem in how my Windows is setup?

    Re: Document Summary

For MS Office files (Word documents, Excel workbooks, PowerPoint presentations and Access databases), document properties are built into the file format.
NTFS drives support document properties for *all* files, but these properties are not part of the files themselves (they are stored in the disk directory), so when you copy the files to a non-NTFS drive such as your flash drive, the document properties aren't transferred.
