    Most recent used files (Word 2003)

    I want to check the location information of recently used files. When I use a MsgBox (MsgBox RecentFiles(n) ) command to look at the individual entries in the collection,
    I just see the file name.
    Is there any way of retrieving the entire path and filename?
    Thank you

    Try
    RecentFiles(n).path

    Re: Most recent used files (Word 2003)

    Thank you for the quick reply. That give me the path. I still have to use Recent Files(n).name to get the other portion but that is no problem.
    Do you know if Word 2003 stores any more MRUs above 9 and how would they be accessible?

    There is no single property that returns the path+filename.

    RecentFiles(n).Path returns the path, as indicated by Don, and RecentFiles(n).Name the filename. You can combine them like this:

    Dim strName As String
    Dim strPath As String
    Dim strFullName As String

    strPath = RecentFiles(n).Path
    If Not Right(strPath, 1) = "" Then
    strPath = strPath & ""
    End If
    strName = RecentFiles(n).Name
    strFullName = strPath & strName

    No, Word remembers at most 9 recently used documents; the same holds for the other Office applications (Access, Excel, PowerPoint).

    Re: Most recent used files (Word 2003)

    http://www.vbasolutions.ca/MRUse.htm holds a still-free version of my MRUse package.
    It builds and maintains a list of Most Recently Used files from several sources, and (in MSWord) monitors file Saves and Close events to augment its own list.
    It shows that it is possible to make use of a vastly increased list of Most recently used files, well over and above Word's limit of 9.

    Thank you, everyone, for the information.
    I will have a look at your MRU package, Chris, and see if it helps my situation.

    I don't really know what your end-goal is, but let MRUse run for a day or two accumulating entries in its file (MRUse.MRU) and in the drop-down listbox and see if it is harvesting the types and volumes of data you require.
