managing emails on outllook express (OE6)

    morning

I've been using outlook express for years with my email@ntlworld.com, I've been asked to look after a website which had its own email address and email domain, I don't really know what I'm doing but I followed the instructions in the manual and have been able to set up the new email account by using tools --->accounts --->add, and double checked the POP3 and incoming/outgoing mail servers, and when I press 'send and receive' it appears to be checking for mail but I have sent some test mails and I'm not receiving them.

Can't think what I've missed out?

Did you input the correct "SMTP" server name?

    Thanks for replying Dave

The manual doesn't say anything about a SMTP name, so I'm not sure. I've looked in my OE settings and all I can find is SMTP = 25, but I'm guessing that was set for my ntl email account <img src=/S/confused3.gif border=0 alt=confused3 width=45 height=45>

    thanks

I think what Dave was referring to, was the actual name assigned by your ISP.
For example, I use Verizon and the incoming server name is incoming.verizon.net .
    For outgoing mail, outgoing.verizon.net.

The following is from what I think is your ISP

How do I enable SMTP Authentication in my Email Client?

    For Microsoft Outlook XP

Establish a connection to the Internet with your ISP.
    Open Outlook XP.
Select Tools -> E-mail Accounts from the Drop down menu at top.
Choose the 'View or change existing e-mail accounts' option and click Next.
Select the e-mail account that you wish to modify, and click Change.
    Click the More Settings button.
Click the Outgoing Server Tab, and check the box entitled 'My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication'. Select the 'Use same settings as my incoming mail server' option and click OK.
On the next screen, click Next.
    Click Finish. That's it!

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Which button is selected below the check mark?
You should have the one that states something about using the same settings as the incoming.

When you are at the tab as shown in your attachment, click on settings. There you will see the choices.

    Hi

Thinking about it this morning, I'm beginning to think that what I'm trying to do is not really possible ... if I do manage to receive the emails from the other email address ... how would I be able to reply using that address????

    thanks

Re: managing emails on outllook express (OE6)

OK sorry to keep bugging you guys..

think maybe this post should now be moved, as I have deleted the 'outlook express 6' account and started afresh with one on the Outlook 2003.

    I thought I'd cracked it as the Outlook 2003 is sending email no problem, but I can't receive any <img src=/S/confused3.gif border=0 alt=confused3 width=45 height=45>

    Help

<P ID="edit" class=small>(Edited by DaveA on 08-Nov-08 18:49. added Outlook 2003 instructions)</P>"sending email no problem, but I can't receive any " then you have the wrong POP server name.

    Edit.
OR double check the user name of the account, it MUST include the domain name.
How to set up email with Outlook 2003?
The information in this article applies to:
    Email Client Setup
    Microsoft Outlook 2003

The following instructions cover typical usage of Outlook 2003 and assume the software has been installed correctly on your system.

From the top menu, click on "Tools", Select "Email Accounts..." This will bring up the Email Accounts wizard.

Select "Add a new e-mail account", Click "Next"

In the Server Type selection, select "POP3". Click "Next"

Fill in the values in the Internet E-mail Settings (POP3):
Your Name: The name you want to appear in outgoing emails
E-mail Address: The address you want to receive email from (e.g., you@yourdomain.com)
User Name: Your full email address (e.g., you@yourdomain.com)
    Password: Your email account password
    Incoming mail server (POP3): mail.yourdomain.com
    Outgoing mail server (SMTP): mail.yourdomain.com

Click on More Settings and Select the Outgoing Server Tab. Check My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication. Select Use same settings as my incoming mail server.

    Click "Next"

    Click "Finish"

    Thank you Dave

I've double double double checked everything and it all appears to be correct, I think its time to contact the bloke who set the account up, is it possible there's something wrong at their end?

    thanks again

(Edited by HansV to make URL clickable - see <!help=19>Help 19<!/help>)

Dave thank you so much for all your help, you're very patient ...just wanted to let you know that the problem is now solved ... I contact the webmail providers via their forum and it was a case of the incoming mail being forwarded to itself and therefore never reaching the inbox ... sounds complicated but I changed one little setting and now it all works, on the webmail and with Outlook.

    Thank you
