Firefox Save Bookmark dialogue (Firefox 3.0.4)

Hello, I just tried out the latest version of Firefox 3 and I'm now back with 2.0.0.18! Apart from not being able to copy and paste images into CorelDraw the other killer drawback is the bookmarks dialogue. The one in Firefox 3 is horrible! It's cumbersome. It can't be repositioned and it seems to be missing the very useful feature of remembering the last five saved locations. I'm not sure if that came with an extension or was with Firefox 2 by default but it was missing in Firefox 3. Are there any tweaks for Firefox 3 to improve the bookmarks save dialogue? Not having the quick access to recently used bookmark folders is very inconvenient.

Thanks,

Chris (Hunt)

The two different controls are now on the same line. It is weird that the dialog can't be repositioned, but I've never noticed that before.

Hello Chris,
I was going to post a screen shot I had, but then Jefferson replied with a better screen shot.

I am quite new to Fx3 since some weeks (though I have used it briefly before). I can't and will not try to answer on the Corel bit.

Bookmarks: true, at default (don't know about extensions) it isn't possible to reposition. I take it as a quick tool, as you probably also does, Ctrl-D or the star. But an option to reposition would be nice, agree. However, as Jefferson says; it does show recently used bookmark folders.

Sometimes, having a lot of add-ons direct at install time can confuse what is default and what is added.

Not much help, but I can confirm that it does show recently used.

Thanks Jefferson, do you know if there is a a way of controlling how many recent folders are shown? I guess I need to take another look at Firefox 3 bookmarks - I don't know it just feels clunky compared with version 2. Perhaps it's just the design...

I took a quick look in about:config and didn't see anything related to the number of recent folders. Sometimes, though, it is difficult to guess what a preference is named...

The new "smart location bar" has been controversial -- both for its appearance and functionality. Whether you agree with its "awesome bar" moniker, or the "awful bar" critique, depends mostly on whether the search-in-history-and-bookmarks feature saves you time or gets in your way. It's possible to tweak the bar if you don't like the way it works. I do think that it grows on you over time. Anyway, I mention this because I suspect the position of the "bookmark this" dialog is related to its integration with the location bar.
