    Search Engine indexing delays

Does Google really take two years to get around to indexing a page?

I'm pretty well perpetually puzzled by search engines.
I've given up trying to accommodate the various pet theories on how/why/what search engines pick up.
It seems to me that for every page saying "use Keywords" that there's another page saying 'Don't!", for just about every meta-tag.

I maintain a Google Web Alert for: chris greaves toronto and about once a month, an alert pops up.
I generate probably two new pages every day, and not every page has "chris greaves toronto", so who knows?

Today I got an alert for a page first created over two years ago, and one from a year ago.
The first page (Guradian UK) might have been regenerated recently, but I doubt it.
The second page (Toronto Dollars) hasn't been regenerated recently, and I know it.

I'm not looking for tips on how-to-rank-high here; I'm wondering if other loungers experience a sudden-discovery up to two years after posting a web page.
I should add that a page I posted on November 1st 2008 popped up in the Google Web Alert Nov 13th, so I can't complain there.

If you figure out Google, you can quadruple your hourly rate. <img src=/S/wink.gif border=0 alt=wink width=15 height=15>

And what good will that do me? (grin!)
