Slow response times

I'm getting very slow response times using the Lounge the last day or two. Is it just my service provider, or is there a problem at the Lounge end? I'm in the UK using a cable modem, and everything else is as quick as usual. - Ian

Re: Slow response times

We're on ADSL and I haven't noticed anything really out of the ordinary.
It could be the transatlantic link your ISP uses that's a bit iffy . . .
What time of day and how many online in the Lounge? Mornings for us are normally best for US sites as the 'locals' there will be less liely to be on line.
I've just tried pinging the following sites with these results:
Our ISP: av. 25ms
www.google.com: av. 105ms
www.wopr.com: av. 132ms

Re: Slow response times

I just got

my ISP av. 22 ms
www.google.com av. 101 ms
www.wopr.com av. 867 ms

... so I'm finding wopr a bit slow!

Re: Slow response times

Just did another quick check and got more or less identical results as before.

I recall a site you could visit that graphically and numerically tracked and displayed your connection around the globe but can't for the life of me remember where it was. I am sure that would have shown up your bottle-neck.

Maybe someone else can remember it (or similar) ?

Re: Slow response times

I ran a Traceroute from All Nettools and came up with this :

Hop IP Address Hostname Average RTT1
1 209.68.1.228 copper.pair.net 0.60 ms
2 192.168.1.8 baal.pair.net 0.41 ms
3 204.192.0.13 0.94 ms
4 165.117.69.221 dca6-core4-pos4-1.atlas.icix.net 6.03 ms
5 165.117.48.118 dca6-core5-pos7-0.atlas.icix.net 7.51 ms
6 165.117.48.105 dca6-core1-pos7-0.atlas.icix.net 6.10 ms
7 165.117.48.102 dca6-core2-pos7-0.atlas.icix.net 5.92 ms
8 165.117.68.34 dca6-qwest.atlas.icix.net 8.14 ms
9 205.171.24.33 wdc-core-01.inet.qwest.net 7.94 ms
10 205.171.8.209 dca-core-02.inet.qwest.net 8.95 ms
11 205.171.5.75 tpa-core-01.inet.qwest.net 34.07 ms
12 205.171.27.26 tpa-edge-03.inet.qwest.net 33.93 ms
13 63.144.0.106 39.03 ms
14 63.151.114.115 wopr.com 38.95 ms

Not very graphical but informative nevertheless.

I'm glad you find it informative - I'm not sure what it means!

I tried using tracert and got this

Don't know if that sheds any light on the problem!

Re: Slow response times

Looks like Qworst..er..Qwest is the bottleneck - AGAIN! I have had one of a time getting through to my ISP when Qworst decides to route things through Tucumcari then Denver then Boise in order to get to the west side of the Phoenix valley - response times go in the in a hurry
