Task Manager (XP Home )

When I Ctrl+Alt+Delete I get the strange task manager shown in the attached picture. What is surprising is that other users on the same machine have a perfectly standard task manager. Does anyone have an idea how I can get the standard task manager back?

    Try double-clicking the top border!

What happens if you double-click on the edge of the TM?

You guys are magicians! Of course, after I double clicked the top border I got my old task manager back, but how did you know? What was going on? How did I get the funny task manager in the fist place?

    Once again, thanks,

I can only guess, but I assume you did exactly as you did now when you returned it to "multi-tab" view".

    BTW
The TM works quite OK in "mono-tab" view, even if a bit reduced without the menus. You can move between the tabs with Ctrl+Tab (and Ctrl+Shift+Tab) or Ctrl+Page Up/Page Down, or cycle them.

You guys are magicians!

Magicians are just people who have had to work out how the trick was done.

What you were in is called "Tiny Footprint" mode (probably because you can resize the resulting window to tiny sizes, should you want?).

Now you know how it works, how about a little experimenting? Do the following for each the tabs in turn (Applications, Processes, Performance, Networking and Users)

click on the tab to select that option
then double-click on the blank area just after all the tabs, to see what you get
To revert to normal, double-click on the top border, as you did the first time.[/list]From these experiments you will realise that the 'blank area' you got was when you were in the Applications tab, but with no applications actually running...

Computing is so intuitive, isn't it!

Thanks again - that was really an education.
