    Organize Favorites (7.0.5730.13)

Today I went to my Favorites >Organized Favorites to add a website I wanted to return to. An error message appeared that read:

An error has occurred in this dialog: Error 104 Invalid class string.

What is this and how can it be fixed?

Any suggestions, fixes or comments will be much appreciated.

    Try this:
    - Select Start | Run...
    - Type regedit and press Enter or click OK.
    - Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVe rsionExplorerMenuOrderFavorites.
    - When you have selected Favorites, select File | Export... and create a .reg file.
    - If the following step doesn't help, you can open the .reg file from Windows Explorer to restore the original situation.
    - Select Edit | Delete or press the Delete key.
    - Note: this will *not* delete your favorites, but it will delete the sort order.
    - Quit RegEdit.
    - Restart Windows.

"when you have selected Favorites, select file ] Export...and create a .reg file"

Pardon my ignorance, but how do you Create A .Reg File?

By selecting an item in the tree on the left hand side of RegEdit, and then selecting File | Export...
The program will display the Export Registry File dialog; you can choose a location and specify a filename.
The default file type for export is Registration Files (*.reg).
Clicking the Save button will create the .reg file. This is a text file that contains the selected registry settings; opening (double-clicking) the .reg file will enter the settings in the registry.

    Thanks, Hans.

That's good information and I thank you for it. I will attempt to do as you explained and because it came from you I'm sure it will work.

I finally was able to follow your instructions, which I did very carefully. I must sadly report that the error wasn't fixed and still appears when I click on Organize Favorites.

Where can we go from here?

Try clearing your cache (Temporary Internet Files).

There's nothing there but cookies. I have IE set to remove Temporary Internet Files each time I close it and it's doing it's job.

    Here's another suggestion (from Microsoft):
    - Start Internet Explorer 7.
    - On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
    - On the Advanced tab, click Reset.
    - In the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, click Reset to confirm.

    Re: Organize Favorites (7.0.5730.13)

First let me say that I had a most difficult time trying to reply to the email notification of your post. The link provided would not load at all and going to the link on my desktop took at least 5 minutes to load. Wow! what a trip.

Next, I went to reset Internet Explorer settings and read this: You should only use this if your browser is in an unusable state.

IE is not unusable just that one problem and I hesitate to reset it. That seems to be a little severe to just organize my favorites, don't you think?

The Lounge is very slow every day between 6 PM and 8 PM EST, because the server is being backed up during that time.

The decision about resetting Internet Explorer is up to you. I don't know whether it will solve your problem.

    Re: Organize Favorites (7.0.5730.13)

Thanks for the information, I'll try not to use the Lounge during those hours.

I realize that no possible fix is guaranteed to solve the problem and I choose not to reset IE. I'll have to keep looking for some other way.

Thanks for all the help you have given me.

    For Hans V,

I found a fix for Organize Favorites on a Microsoft Forum. I went to Run and Typed: regsvr32 jscript.dll, rebooted and Organize Favorites is now working.
