Remote Assistance Error (XP SP3)

Hello,
I am trying to receive a Remote Assistance Invitation for the first time (I am tired of going to my ex-husband's house!!!) and I did receive the invitation I walked him through to send - we did it by email as he is not familiar with IM's. The email took a day and a half to receive and when I attempted to connect using the password we set up I got the follwing error: A Remote Assistance Connection could not be established because the DNS name of the remote computer could not be resolved.

The invitation was not expired at the time. My computer is running XP Media SP3 and his is XP Pro SP3. I followed the link in the email for assistance and frankly it is too complicated for me! If the problem is this, try that. Ok, but I don't know enough to know what the problem is! I am not really sure that this is the correct support article but I will post it here if someone would like to take a look. Also so you know that I am trying . . . http://support.microsoft.com/kb/839880

Thank you, as always, for all of your assistance. You are all great.

It doesn't solve your immediate problem, but have you thought of installing something like CrossLoop on each PC? It is and works fairly well, and requires no firewall changes. You just start the program on each PC, ignore all the stuff about setting up accounts, and phone one other to pass across the 12-digit number that the Sharing computer (XH) has come up. Lots of clicking on "Yes", "OK", "I really did mean for someone to look at my computer", and so on, at each end and you get his desktop visible to you, and can act (almost) as if you were sitting in front of it.

Re: Remote Assistance Error (XP SP3)

Hello and thanks!
I have not heard of that program; I didn't even consider the existence of a non-Microsoft pre-installed program to perform those type of functions! Need to think out of the box more! The best part is that I saw my favorite smilie, !!!
It will be painful to talk him through the installation of a program; he is a commercial artist and knows "his" programs inside and out. Anything else to do with the computer; he is and I am going to before I finally !!!
Thanks for the suggestion!
