Word does not reset counting of Document 1 (2000 SR-1, NT4.0)

When starting Word it shall always start with Document1. The next time one create a new document it will be number 2 and so on.

In my case Word does not start on 1 after having been closed and then started again. Word keeps on showing accumulated numbers.

Can anyone tell me tell me what causes this?
    Registry setting corrupt?

    Thanks for any help!

    Regards
    Bjorn

    Hi Bjorn,

This could be one of two things. First, another instance of Word could be running and it's holding Document1. You can display the Task Manager and see if this is the case.

If you restart the PC and the problem still exists then it's a temp file causing the count to be off. Search for all temp (*.tmp) and delete them to take care of the problem.

    Hi BAM

    Thanks a lot.

We found the problem. It was caused by another problem; a procedure, prepared to collect a document ID, was not installed on the computer. (A template contains macros for generating a document, a NOTE, and calls for a document ID, and when the macro cannot find the ID it just waits and waits; anyway the problem is solved)

    Thanks again!
