    80 second login delay

This situation has me puzzled. I have four email accounts ... my email (Eudora) checks them all simultaneously. Three of them log in and do everything immediately. The fourth one just sits there waiting to log in. And the delay (I have timed it repeatedly with a stop watch) is always exactly 80 seconds. Does anyone have any idea what would cause this mathematically precise delay .. every time. ... If I go to that account directly by dialup, the login is normal. The problem only shows when logging in by the internet.

Are the four email accounts all on different domains? - or does the fourth share a domain with another?

Can you (temporarily) disable the three OK accounts and see if the fourth logs in OK on it's own?

All different domains ... all different servers ... widely separated geographically. Actually I have fired up the one email account on its own ... and same result.

The funny thing it is exactly 1min 20 seconds for the one that is slow allowing log in. Every time. I have repeated checked it by stop watch. And support is not very helpful.

Can you share the host with us in case someone has had a similar experience? It almost sounds like a timed lock-out to me - i.e. it won't let you log in (again) for xx seconds since the last attempt, as an anti-hacking measure.

Okay. It's kootenay.com. Owned by uniserve canada. They bought up a whole bunch of small ISPs and allowed everyone to keep their old email addresses rather than switching to uniserve. Incidentally, I still have a dial up account with them for backup, and when I go in by that route directly, there is no log in delay. As for your suggestion about the timed lock-out ... it would be logical, except for the fact that it has exactly the same delay after not attempting a connection for 6 hours overnight.

I'll move this thread (from General Windows) to the Other Browsers and Email Clients Forum - I think it may get better exposure there...

Is any of the other accounts on a domain owned by Uniserve?

No ... all are totally separate. No relation between any of them.

It may be that it is having to jump through several servers to get to the OLD address.
I have a client that still uses "ix.netcom.com" which has to jump through a couple of servers.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

    Re: 80 second login delay

I suppose it could be ... but connecting by dial up directly has no delays to the same email address/domain. And the 80 second timing still has me wondering. Sounds like a scripting thing on the server, or some kind of loop or timer. (big shrug).

Do you get a delay when logging in using their web-mail portal?

Could you temporarily set up Outlook Express to access only that account and see if you still get the same delay?

No delay on webmail. It is pretty much instant.

Outlook Exp produces the 80 second delay. Well at least it came back with a "no reply after 60 seconds, do I want to wait another 60 seconds".
