Thanks Joe. Yeah I guess so, if you've ever tried the online version, I think you'd like what it does. It's a good piece of work and when you read THIS quote, it motivates a download:

scans more than 7,000 programs compared to this online version covering less than 100.

Re: Update ► Secunia PSI 1.0.0.1

I read about this today in the Windows Secrets newsletter, but was unable to get the download page to load on my machine. All I get is a blank page with a few useless lines. Is there another way to get this DL ?? From the article, that Woody wrote, it seems like it's a necessary tool in today's online environment.

Yes it is extremely useful. I keep copies of my usb, SD, microSD "sticks" (i.e. Opera portable, Firefox Portable amongst the other portable apps) on my external backup hard drive and it even scopes them out. The programs do not have to be on the C: drive (or whatever your program disk is). I've found it to be indispensible.

Glad to hear that. But it doesn't work for me and that's why I asked for an alternate DL site.

    Thanks Hans.

I have not intentionally blocked CNET, but I have not been able to load their pages for some time now. Until today, never really cared because the only time I ran into them was looking for answers for others. I'll check into it and post back if I can figure out what I've done or has been done.

Sorry, I didn't intend for that to be as smug as it reads now. I just thought that often when you retry a site a few minutes later it works.

    Joe,

I am assuming that one would need to download the scanner each time (or on a regular cycle) so that it scanned for the latest threats. I get wary when I use that A word.

I have used it on a couple of machines, but haven't had it on for long enough to know if it will automatically update - or at least warn me that it needs updating.

Re: Update ► Secunia PSI 1.0.0.1

The Secunia PSI (Personal Software Inspector) is a locally installed application - it runs from your hard disk. It downloads info about the latest updates to lots of programs each time you run a scan, and it will inform you automatically when a new version of Secunia PSI itself is available.

And, since Secunia is a vendor we seem to "trust," be sure you follow up on the registration link to register yourself with them for future update notifications. In my experience so far, they are NOT an annoyance and I value this service.

Now I've got to start checking out the 14 potential problems that the first scan found on my machine...
