Tab leader in index (Word 2003)

I created an index in a document and there is no tab leader between the entry and the page number. To create a comprised of option two in the attached image, I went into the tab dialogue of the modify style option for the Index 1 style. However, there was no tab set and marked that I could select and modify.

How can I change this setting and add it to the template if the very setting I am trying to change is not in the above-mentioned dialogue box?

    Regards,

You can set tab leaders for the index in the index dialog box.

Thank you! But it’s only a temporary fix—as soon as I update the index, the tab leader disappears.

Add the right-aligned tab with tab leader to the style definition of the Index1 style (and Index2 if needed). You should then be able to select the index and press Ctrl+Q to restore the tabs.
