copying table - cell borders don't match (Office XP)

    Hi gang,
When I copy a table from one document to another, and sometimes within the same document, the borders keep changing, they don't stay the same way as they were in the original table I copied.
How can I avoid having to reformat a table when I copy it.
    tks

Do you mean that the columns resize? If you click in the table and check Table > Properties > Table > Options, is it set to automatically resize? If so, try turning that off.

If the border style is changing, that probably is something else, but nothing comes to mind...

Yep, the border style changes. My original table has no border. When I copy it, single line borders all over the place.

If the table style used for the table (by default: Table Grid) is different in the source and target documents, the table will take on the style of the target document when copied.

This is the general behavior of styles when you copy from one Word document to another: if the text being copied uses a style that already exists in the target document, it will use the style definition of the target document.
