    Permissions (2003)

I recently emailed a copy of a data base to a friend, but they can't open it as it has some sort of permissions set. How do I eliminate the permissions. I was unaware that there were any in the first place. In the past I copied a version to thier computer using a flash drive, but emailing it has done something with permissions that I don't understand.

    1. Did you attach the .mdb file directly to the e-mail? Outlook blocks .mdb attachments, i.e. recipients can't open or save them. Try zipping the database and sending the zip file.

    2. If your friend can get at the .mdb file but it won't open, let them try the following:
    - Right-click the .mdb file in Windows Explorer.
    - Select Properties from the popup menu.
    - Click the Unblock button near the bottom of the dialog.
    - Click OK.
    - Try to open the database.

Post back if that doesn't help.

    Hi Hans,

Yes, I sent it zipped and my friend unzipped it. At first she couldn't access it, but after fiddling around with it for a while it suddenly unlocked. I have no idea what she did, but at least it's now working OK. Thanks for the advice.
