Recreating the 'Default User' Profile (XP Pro SP3)

Some time ago, in a fit of tidying enthusiasm, I appear to have deleted the Default User profile from the Documents and Settings folder on my PC. The effect of this is to prevent any 'new' domain user from logging on at my PC to our domain, and the message starting "Windows cannot log you on because your profile cannot be loaded... etc" is given.

To get round the problem temporarily I have copied the All Users profile to Default User, and I can now log on to the domain as the 'new' domain user, but really I would like to create a 'proper' Default User profile. What's the best way of doing this? For example, could I copy the Default User profile from another, similar, PC?

    Thanks!

Just a guess, would a repair installation recreate the default user profile?

I don't have a clue, but on my administrative PC I don't think I'd dare do that!

Time to find a test PC, unless there is a lounger out there with plenty of time and a PC they are prepared to break.

Your second link includes the very encouraging text:

Note: You can use this custom profile on other Windows XP-based computers by copying the profile you saved in Cocuments and SettingsDefault User to the same folder on a different computer.

Thanks very much, Leif - Stuart has pointed out exactly the sort of information for which I was looking!

All the HKU.DEFAULT information is probably intact...
