Custom Date (Excel '07)

I am creating a database of business cards that I import from NeatWorks as a .csv file. I then save it as an Excel file. The current date shows "Thursday, November 27, 2008". While this is OK for some instances, I want to be able to use a custom date to separate some cards. Those business cards that need to would say something like "Blitz" where applicable, and those that that does not apply to I would choose to use a standard date. I remember being able to use the @ symbol in Excel for such things as 7 @ 1.49, but I am unable to figure this one out.
PS: Happy Thanksgiving Everyone
Thanks John

Hi John
I'm confused. What is it that would not be provided by:

Formatting the column with the date format you wish; and

Typing the specific text you want in the non-sysndard cells?[/list]
Regards
Don

Re: Custom Date (Excel '07)

OK! let me see if I can explain this better.
Several years ago I made a quote sheet, and with the help of this forum I was able to change the format of a cell to read something like this:
1ea. or 1@, or 65/hr. The text would enter after I entered a number and would not interfere with the calculations. I have since lost that quote sheet, and cannot remember how to do it. I want to take that one step further if possible, and in the Date Column in a spreadsheet, I want to format the cells to read something like this before the date: "Sales Blitz" then the date format I have chosen from the Custom format.
does that help?
Thanks John

You can select Custom in the Number tab of Format | Cells, and enter a format similar to this:

"Sales Blitz: "dddd mmmm d, yyyy

This would display for today (11/27/08)

Sales Blitz: Thursday November 27, 2008

Thanks Hans. I was just about to type back that I remembered how to do it.
