    Add-Ons (7.0.5730.13)

Under Tools > Manage Add-ons > Enable or Disable Add-ons, I found 4 XML DOM Documents that were listed as ActiveX Controls with 3 different .dlls. What are these Application Extensions? Should all 4 be enabled?

No problems or error messages, just would like to know. I was surprised that they weren't documents at all.

The answer is YES and don't touch them. The DOM (Data Object Model) defines a standard set of commands so that browsers (parsers) can access HTML and XML documentation from applications. These days websites are more just HTML but applications (by definition). DOM will take the data in an XML document and expose it via a set of objects.

I can safely assume that the multiple DLL's are there for backward compatability and for specific data access requirements

I assume that all four are from Microsoft. I don't know exactly what each of them is used for, but I'd leave them alone. They won't harm and they take up very little space on your hard disk.

Thank you for the explanation, leave them alone, I will. I just like to know what's on my system and there usage.

Yes, all were by Microsoft. Jezza supplied me with an acceptable explanation of what they are and what they do. I'm not hard up for space so I have no need to remove them.

It's just with most files, you're advised to delete the older versions before installing the new one and I was wondering if these were ones where that should be done.

    Thanks for your reply.
