    Hi Pat,
Have you installed IIS? There should have been a warning when the SQL Server installation routine was checking your computer.

    I believe it's installed, no it's not.

Do i need the full IIS or will the snap-in for Microsoft Management Console (MMC) do?

    Thanks for helping again.

IIS needs to be fully installed for Reporting Services. The default settings will suffice after selecting the checkbox (Internet Information Services) in the Control Panel <Add Remove Programs><Add Remove Windows Components>.

Re: sql install problem (Access 2003 SP3)

    As an addemdum:
The Report Manager is a web page, hence the need for an installation of IIS and not the MMC snap-in.
Initially let the SQL Server installation program configure Reporting Services. There is a setting to configure it using the Reporting Services Configuration Manager after the installation has finished, but unless you are familiar with it, there are a couple of steps which can be easily mis-configured.

Re: sql install problem (Access 2003 SP3)

On my XP Pro machine it is ticked as a Component in Add/Remove Windows Components, but it is not listed as a separate entry in Add/Remove programs.

Can you go to http://localhost/ in your Web Browser?
    Regards
    John

Re: sql install problem (Access 2003 SP3)

Just wanted to let you know how i overcame this, a reboot of my laptop solved it.

IIS was always installed, however, as i have mentioned below it requires a user name and password for localhost/reports. Where do i look for this?

Re: sql install problem (Access 2003 SP3)

    Hi Pat,
This is for Internet Explorer. I am checking to see how this might be accomplished using FF or Opera.
Open a browser window. Click on Tools, the Security tab, then on Local intranet (under "Select a zone to view or change security settings"). The Sites button will then become active and click on it. Uncheck the "Automatically detect intranet network". Here IE help states you should then select all other check boxes. I've found that checking only the first will stop the login dialog box from appearing. Then click OK twice and you should not have the login dialog box appear.
You can access this Help section by clicking on "What are intranet settings?" in the Local Intranet dialog which appears after you click on the Sites button under the heading "Do I need to set anything in Internet Explorer to have intranet security?"
