    Defaulting to Office XP (2007)

I have both Office XP and Office 2007 on my PC but prefer to work in XP by default. I tried to set the default association to the XP version of the programs by changing the file types association to the XP directory - but it just ignores it so if I double click I end up with Word 2007 or Excel 2007 or whatever. I'm reduced to opening up Word XP then doing a File Open.

    Any ideas?

One option is to Right Click on a file, and choose Open With. You should find both versions of the relevant program listed, and you can choose.

Unfortunately the 'Open With' only gives the 2007 options. Even if I use Browse and navigate to the correct exe (in theXP directory) it still opens with 2007.

You could add shortcuts to the Office XP apps to the Send To folder (Cocuments and Settings<username>SendTo).

    Hans

How do you get something into that folder?

I just tried to do this (because I find similar behaviour) and I get this message.

That's Windows Vista, isn't it? I can't help you with that, but it might well have to do something with UAC (User Access Control)

You need to go to "C:UsersUSERNAMEAppDataRoamingMicrosoftWindowsSend To". Anything else will just be a link for legacy programs to be able to use.

    Thank you. That worked.

I now both Words and both Excels in the Send to Menu. Somehow (can't remember) I got both Access versions in the Open With menu, but I could not get that to work for Word and Excel.
