OE stoped sending to Comcast (XP/OE6)

When trying to send with Outlook Express my wife gets the following message:
<Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'Comcast', Server: 'smtp.comcast.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 587, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F>
It seems to time out while "Working on Authorizing"

This problem started a few days after I received a message from Comcast about a potential virus sending email from our computers. I can not find any problems. I checked my IP number on several site and only Spamhaus PBL says it is a Comcast issue.

Comcast Support had me change my ouput port form 25 to 587 but this did not fix the problem.
Once they learned I had a router, it became a router problem.
I called LINKSYS and was told that if any computer on the routed could send email all others should also.
My Vista Outlook system works just fine.

Talked with Comcast Support again today and they still could not fix the problem.
We tried disabling the McAfee firewall and virus protecttion and that did not help either.
Now they think the problem is with Outlook Express.
Her system is current with both MS and McAfee updates.

Are there any know issues with Outlook Express?

After making the change to Port: 587, did you restart Outlook Express?
Also on the "Out going Server" tab, add a check mark to the "My Outgoing..........." and that the "Use same settings....." is selected.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Re: OE stoped sending to Comcast (XP/OE6)

    Dave,
Yes to both OE Restart and Use Same Setting...

But the news is better this morning.

I used two Accounts set to Comcast's specifications, one for 587 and another for 995/465 with SSL enabled.
Timeout for 995/465 was set to the maximum of 5 minutes and first attempt did not work,
timing out on both Send & Receive operations with SSL: No.

Switched to the 587 Account and increased the timeout from Mininum to 3 minutes.
I was asked to re-enter the Password for both send & receive executions, but they both worked OK.
Re-tested the 995/465 Account and it now works.

Go figure, just hope Comcast does not change anything else.
