    Database Connection (Access 2003 SP3)

I have just got responsibility for a clients database.

I notice the first thing it does is a connection to the database in a module.

At certain points in the database i notice this command is used at various points just prior to accessing the database.

These tables are linked so i assumed that a link was always avalable, is this the case? Can a database lose it's connection to a database when the access to it is linked tables via ODBC?

This acess database accesses tables in SAP (presumably Oracle), FoxPro, SQL Server and Access.

I will get back to you on the type of database it connects to.

You didn't get back with a report of the database type, but with linked tables it shouldn't be necessary to create a connection to the external database - Access will automatically connect when one of the linked tables is used.
If the programmer wants to retrieve information from a table that has not been linked, it would be necessary to create a separate connection.

As Hans said, you shouldn't have to reconnect each time.

I believe the only time you need to force a relink is if you know the backend (that is, non-Access backend) table has been modified.

Sorry about the wait, it seems it is not needed, i have had it commented out for 3 weeks now.

    The database was sql server.

    Thank you both for responding.

    Happy New Year to all.
