Just to throw a spanner into John's and your answer #1 for example Are you sure the businessman and the owner may not be the same person therefore you have made a assumption

(Edited by Jezza on 05-Dec-08 23:02. Missed out 13, 14 and 15 the first time)
I'll hazard a go

1 ?
2 ?
3 False
4 ?
5 ?
6 True
7 ?
8 ?
9 ?
10 ?
11 ?
12 ?
13 False
14 ?
15 ?

The question mark implies there is insufficient data to determine the result of True or False or assumptions have to be made. I will explain if required.

One possible interpretation of the story different than that implied in the telling: Business man is the manager. Owner is the man wanting the earnings for the day to take to the bank. Owner opens register, takes the money, the cops are notified to escort him to the bank There are also other possibilities...

Re: True or False?

> Now where's the answer?

How could I resist such a polite request!

Here is a more detailed explanation of exactly what happened.

The night manager was ending his shift. He was turning out the sidewalk lights as the grumpy owner arrived. The owner demanded the night’s receipts. The owner opened the cash register and examined the contents. Everything was in order. The night manger left the store. As he was jogging home, he saw the off-duty police officer who makes the bank deposits for the store. The night manger said, “Good morning! Hope you are in a good mood, because the boss isn’t.

And here are the correct answers.

? 1. A man appeared after the owner had turned off his store lights.
? 2. The robber was a man.
F 3. The man who appeared did not demand money.
? 4. The man who opened the cash register was the owner.
? 5. The store owner scooped up the contents of the cash register and ran away.
T 6. Someone opened a cash register.
? 7. After the man who demanded the money scooped up the contents of the cash register, he ran away.
? 8. While the cash register contained money the story does not state how much.
? 9. The robber demanded money of the owner.
? 10. A businessman had just turned off the lights when a man appeared in the store.
? 11. It was broad daylight when the man appeared.
? 12. The man who appeared opened the cash register.
F 13. No one demanded money.
? 14. The story concerns a series of events in which only three persons are referred to: the owner of the store, a man who demanded money, and a member of the police force.
? 15. The following events were included in the story: Someone demanded money, a cash register was opened, its contents were scooped up, and a man dashed out of the store.

Re: True or False?

I disagree with your 4th answer Could you explain why you get your answer?

How is the statement "The man who opened the cash register was the owner." UNKNOWN since the story states: "The owner opened a cash register." It sounds True to me...

Steve,

There is no evidence that the owner is a man

2. DON'T KNOW: Doesn't state directly that it was a robber.
3. FALSE: He did appear and demanded money.
4. DON'T KNOW: Doesn't say the owner was a man.
5. DON'T KNOW: Doesn't say who scooped.
6. TRUE: It does say the owner opened a cash register.
7. DON'T KNOW: Doesn't say these were all the same people.
8. DON'T KNOW: We don't know if it contained money or not, regardless of the fact that it doesn't, in fact, state how much.
9. DON'T KNOW: Doesn't say "robber" or "owner."
10. DON'T KNOW: Doesn't say "in the store."
11. DON'T KNOW: Doesn't mention time of day.
12. DON'T KNOW: Doesn't say directly.
13. FALSE: "man appeared and demanded money."
14. DON'T KNOW: What about the business man?
15. DON'T KNOW: Doesn't say "a man dashed out of the store."
